My Marketing Funnel: Exposed ๐ณ - Issue #20
Hi y'all ๐
Let's be serious for a second.
Accelerating Towards Doom ๐ฅ๐
Villages in Canada with 49.6 degrees Celsius and massive floods in Germany with hundreds dead.
Such events happen more frequently all over the world. These are just two examples.
The clock is ticking โฐ
I don't have an easy solution but I wanted to share with you a couple of resources that have helped me:
- A Data-Driven Guide to Effective Personal Climate Action: This is the best guide/write-up I've come across so far. Actionable advice for individuals. [MUST READ ๐]
- FLUTHILFE.JETZT: My friend Tobi put together a collection of links where you can help/donate to organizations helping with the flood aftermath in ๐ฉ๐ช
- How Tesla Will Change The World: Tim Urban breaks down global energy consumption and shows how a shift to Electric Vehicles (EVs) can help to ease our petroleum/coal dependency. [MUST READ ๐]
If you have any recommendable reading/resource around the topic of climate action/etc. please share it with me.
I'm always looking for new input on this topic.
...
On a related note: I hope that my business remote fabric can help reduce the number of business trips.
Maybe a cross-continental business flight is not necessary if a well-prepared Zoom call can do ๐ค
End of rant.
An Update from the Creator Trenches
Last week a couple of you reached out directly to give me feedback and say kind words of support.
Messages like these help me to keep going.
Thank you for that ๐
The Creator Economy Is Hiring
My friend Janis is a gifted illustrator and I this piece resonated a lot ๐
One very interesting aspect of this illustration is the salary:
Zero <--------> Infinite.
Sounds wild but it describes it perfectly.
You have no downside protection and can spend months or years chasing a dream just to deplete all your savings and having nothing to show. Bad.
On the other hand, if you build equity you have virtually unlimited upside. Amazing.
Marketing Funnel and Workflow Automations
Let's get technical.
Marketing Funnel: Understand the Customer Journey ๐ข
This week I spent some time structuring the marketing funnel for remote fabric.
I created a chart to show the following:
- Top of Funnel:
Where do people get in touch with my business for the first time?
// Primarily my 'building in public' activity via social (Twitter; LinkedIn) and this newsletter. - Middle of Funnel:
Where do people get a taste for the remote work content?
// Currently it's split into free 60-min Zoom workshops, free content in my Remote Workbook, and a bi-weekly newsletter about "How Remote Works" (I started the newsletter yesterday ๐) - Bottom of Funnel:
Where do people convert into paying customers?
// Currently I'm building an email-based course about "The 80/20 of Remote Team Leadership" - it's a deep-dive into proper documentation ๐
Why does it help to map a funnel?
Because it shows you which steps are involved. Once you know the steps you can think about standardizing and automating them ๐
Workflow Automation: Your Little Robotnik Helpers ๐ค
Currently, remote fabric is a small operation.
Aka it's just me ๐โโ๏ธ
Everything that allows me to save time (repeatedly) is amazing.
This week I automated the data push from the different top-of-funnel steps to the mid-of-funnel data buckets.
Example: Event Signup
- Elmo goes to an event landing page
- Elmo enters
email
in the signup form - Zapier takes
email
from a landing page signup form and sends it into Revue member list and Mailerlite user groups.
It saves me time and I don't have to do it manually and now I can engage Elmo across other touchpoints and hopefully provide value (i.e. relevant content on how remote works).
Below is the current set of automations (aka Zaps) ๐
This is a constant work in progress.
If you have any recommended automations (especially around business processes [invoicing/billing; etc]) please let me know ๐
Random: Spreading Knowledge and New Music
I'm closing this issue out with 2 things out of left field.
#1: Supporting Friends: Berlin-based Non-Profit-Org Building Libraries for Underprivileged Kids
My friends from Lilipad are building libraries for kids in developing countries.
So far they have built and operated libraries in Germany, Uganda, and Morocco.
5 libraries for 2000+ children. Talk about impact.
๐ง + ๐ = ๐ก
I love their concept so much that we once organized a fundraiser club party where all proceeds went to building libraries.
They are legit.
Lilipad just applied for a EUR 100.000 grant.
The grant is determined through public voting.
If you want to collect karma points, click the link below and select your choices.
If you want to vote for Lilipad, go to the category Youth Advocacy
and select Empower Underprivileged Children Through Education
.
Community Grant Voting
Expensify.org is a charity that empowers individuals and communities to eliminate injustice around the world by making giving and volunteering more convenient, meaningful, and collaborative.
The cool thing is, there's also a Climate Justice category.
This ties back to the intro I wrote at the very top โ๏ธ
#2: New Music from Art Lapinsch
Last weekend I co-organized another open air clubbing.
This time the proceeds of the event went to the club where we usually host those parties since they are a small business themselves and effectively didn't make any revenue for an entire year.
I played and recorded this set during the event ๐
Live at Humboldthain Club - Disko No Disko 3yr Anniversary Set
This set is a curation of my favorite downtempo and melodic techno tunes of the past months.
